On December 5th, 2015, the world converged in Florence, Italy to crown the world’s best franchisee. The event saw attendance from fans and contestants alike from all around the globe. Some of the countries in attendance included Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Hungary, Italy, and Portugal amongst others. In total, 34 countries were represented.
Omar Yunes of the Sushi Itto Franchise won the accolade to emerge as the Best Franchisee of the World (BFW). Mr. Yunes who became a Japanese food chain franchisee at the age of 21 currently owns a dozen franchises spread out over Mexico City, Veracruz, and Puebla. They account for 10% of the units the brand has. The SusshiItto brand currently has well over 400 employees spread across the dozen units. The very humble Yunes gives credit to the employees, and cites that it’s not him but the employees, who have enabled the brand to clinch the top prize. He further continues to state that he is a representative of the brand and of the 400 employees.
Diego Elizarrarras, the BFW Mexico organizer, also confirms that Mr. Yunes won the award –both at the national and worldwide levels—for being an instrumental factor to changing the relationship between franchising and franchisees. He goes further to say that Yunes and the Sushi Itto brand have gone ahead to achieve better information management, and uses the information to implement control boards that aid in having each units measurements. Mr. Elizarrarras was excited when Omar Yunes won the award and said it demonstrated the strength of Mexican franchises.
Omar Yunes is not only a great entrepreneur, but he is also one of Mexico’s young millionaires. He has immersed wealth not only by starting while he was young, but also by having a certain insight to pick out potential investments. These attributes natured him to make multi-million dollar deals in short duration of time; for instance, in2010 alone, he acquired five companies based in Oviedo. Yunes has earned the reputation of being a deal-maker and a reputable businessman. He is also regarded as a world class real-estate developer and has a few Condos worth over five million dollars to his name, especially in New York and Polanco.
