Norka Martinez Luque loved singing ever since she was a little girl. She has participated in numerous singing, dance, and instrument playing competitions. During her early school life, she participated in the “The Golden Voice” and “School Festival of Gaitas.”
After completing high school education, she traveled to France in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She also has extension courses in marketing, fashion, and curling arts. Even at the University, Ms. Martinez felt the urge to keep in touch with her music ambitions. She did several things including performing in French nightclubs and joining a punk and rock band, Bad Moon Rising to move closer to the dream that burnt harder in her.
Ms. Martinez decided to move to Monaco soon after she graduated. She found a banking job in one of the banks in Monaco. Even though the job was paying well, Norka got bored fast. She felt that the banking job limited her creativity.
Ms. Martinez decided to move to the United States to try out a new career. She settled in Miami, a home to numerous successful Latino musicians. She moved to this state with the intention of becoming a professional musician.
Like most artists, Norka Luque found it hard making her debut on the professional music scene. She started performing in nightclubs around the Miami region. During one of her performances, the legendary Latino music producer, Emilio Estefan Jr. noticed her unique talent.
Her debut on the professional music scene
Norka Luque became an international star soon after she started working with Mr. Estefan. Her first album was produced by a host of professionals in the Latino music community including Emilio Estefan, Archie Pena, Luis Giraldo and the Gaitan Brothers. The album became a success and songs such as “Como lo haces tú” and “Milagro” became international hits.
In 2011, “Como lo haces tú” got Ms. Martinez a nomination at the “Lo Nuestro” awards for Best Pop Female Artist of the Year. “Milagro” topped music charts in different countries including Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and the United States.
Norka Martinez was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2007. However, in late 2014, her condition worsened. She had to stop her career to undergo a brain surgery. She endured a long and rather challenging recovery process that saw gain several kilograms.
